Resveratrol (trans-resveratrol) is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced by several plants in response to injury or when the plant is under attack by pathogens, such as bacteria or fungi.
Sources of resveratrol in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries and peanuts and certain roots.
Red wine contains at most 12,6 mg resveratrol per liter so to get a daily dose of 1g resveratrol, you would have to drink 80 liters or 106 bottles of red wine every day.
How does Resveratrol work?
Resveratrol has numerous health benefits. Because of its antioxidant properties, resveratrol could be a promising supplement for lowering blood pressure.
Several studies in animals have suggested that resveratrol supplements may change blood fats in a healthy way. In these studies, the average total cholesterol levels and body weight decreased, and the levels of “good” HDL cholesterol increased.
Other animal studies have shown that resveratrol supplements have increased lifespan.
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of resveratrol protects brain cells from damage.
Resveratrol has been shown to have several benefits for diabetes like increasing insulin sensitivity and preventing complications.
Supplementing with resveratrol may help relieve joint pain by preventing cartilage from breaking down.
In animal and test-tube studies, resveratrol has shown the ability to fight several kinds of cancer cells, including gastric, colon, skin, breast and prostate.
We recommend this product is taken alongside our Pure NMN and Pure Quercetin. To understand the science behind this, please see our Science page. What we are trying to achieve is the resveratrol activating your sirtuins and NMN increasing the fuel for those sirtuins so that they do their healthy work. As for Pure Quercetin, as well as providing a whole host of its own health benefits, it also improves the half-life of resveratrol, so should be taken in the same supplement regime.
Resveratrol is often used in combination with NMN as an anti-aging supplement since it enhances the effect of NMN.
